Welcome note
“The pursuit of joining an economic bloc has become a goal for many countries, as regional economic blocs have spread throughout the world and have become a defining feature of the contemporary economic landscape due to their significant benefits. These benefits include, but are not limited to, market expansion, increased competitiveness and production efficiency, technological capacity development, reducing the impact of economic fluctuations, and many others.
The founding leaders of the Arab Maghreb Union recognized this truth early on, and the union was officially established in 1989 with the aim of enhancing relations among member states and achieving economic and social integration. The Maghreb region is characterized by its rich cultural heritage, historical significance, and vast economic potential, making it an extremely important economic space in North Africa.
From the foundation of the union, several entities emerged, including the Maghreb Bank for Investment and Foreign Trade, whose establishment agreement was signed in March 1991 and inaugurated in its headquarters in Tunisia in December 2015 as a banking entity for the member states.
The primary goal of establishing the bank is to contribute to the establishment of an interconnected Maghreb economy by financing strategic projects in the Maghreb countries that are integration-oriented, promoting intra-Maghreb trade, strengthening Maghreb value chains, and playing a strategic role in supporting companies across the various Maghreb countries. It serves as a platform to enhance their regional visibility and facilitate their entry into the markets of the member states.
Since the beginning of its operations, the Maghreb Bank for Investment and Foreign Trade has been dedicated to providing innovative solutions to achieve its noble goals. The bank’s management and its Maghreb teams are determined to exert every possible effort to face all challenges and continue working and evolving to build a Maghreb banking institution that contributes to the welfare of the people of the Greater Maghreb”.
